The Great Smoky Mountains National Park invites you to the Grand Opening of the new Oconaluftee Visitor Center in Cherokee, NC – April 15, 2011. Those of us who work there are thrilled to see it happen after many years of waiting. At last there is a place to “tell the story” of the people who lived and loved these mountains. The architecture of the building itself reflects in profile the farm buildings seen through the large glass wall. It will now be an easy walk for Park visitors to access the Oconaluftee Farmstead from the wide covered porch. And good news for repeat visitors, the new bathrooms are convenient to the parking area, and handicap accessible. Hope we’ll see you on April 15th!
